Rental Property & Holiday Accommodation

Inner West Sydney

The Inner West of Sydney is an area which encompasses the inner-city suburbs of Sydney located immediately adjacent to, and west of the central business district. Not a precise geographical region, this area includes some suburbs of the City of Sydney proper, and much of the local council areas of Leichhardt, Marrickville, Ashfield, Canada Bay (which includes the former governmental areas of Drummoyne and Concord), Burwood, Strathfield and Canterbury.

Sydney has three interesting suburbs within a relatively short bus or taxi ride of the city - Balmain, Glebe and Newtown. They are old working class suburbs which became 'trendy' over the past 20 years or so, but have retained their original diversity and character.

On this site you can find available residential homes for rent or any kind of rental property, such as apartments, houses, fully furnished or unfurnished units, rooms, villas, townhouses, commercial for lease, holiday and share accommodation, short and long term rentals, flat, studio, private leases, pet friendly rentals and granny flats.

Oz Rentals is a dedicated property search site for use by homeowners, landlords, managers, real estate agents, property management companies & others that want an affordable and effective way to find tenants fast. Rental properties Australia wide when looking for an apartment for rent, permanent or short stay rentals, house, townhouse, unit, villa to let, flats, rooms, commercial for lease, holidays or share accom.

Younger professionals and in some cases academics moved in, drawn by their closeness to the Sydney CBD. They restored or renovated old, often very simple houses. The best now appear in leading decorator and lifestyle magazines, though they are in the back streets and you have to go and look for them.

Although the suburbs within the region vary widely in socio-economic conditions, as a whole, it is characterised by medium- to high-density housing and includes some of the older constructions in Sydney such as the terrace houses of Glebe and Newtown. It is also the location of several tertiary institutions such as University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney and the more downtown areas have high student populations.

East Balmain is mainly residential with some fine restored houses, a tiny shopping centre, and the obligatory pub. A public bus runs from the ferry to the town centre of Balmain, which is much larger and crammed with ordinary, everyday shops you would expect to find in a village. But it also has a string of restaurants, cafes and pubs along with a couple of old churches and a handful of restored historic buildings.

Glebe is a similar style of suburb to Balmain. It begins near Sydney University at Broadway, which is a continuation of the city's George Street. The main street is Glebe Point Road, which is one of the best eating areas in Sydney. Ranging from the up-market 'modern Australian' Darling Mills, the street offers Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Indonesian, Indian and a good bit more.

Newtown: The University of Sydney campus occupies a large site in the shape of a rough 'V' with Broadway where it turns into Parramatta Road forming the right fork, City Road, which is the main street running through Newtown, the left. Newtown is about the same distance from the city as Glebe by bus or taxi.

If you are into green, orange and purple hair all on one head, you will find it in Newtown. It is more 'alternative' than Balmain or Glebe, but it is also popular with the younger professional set.

Inner West Sydney encompasses trendy harbourside suburbs like Balmain and bohemian uni student hangouts like Glebe and Newtown offering chic accommodation, street life & cafes close to Sydney city centre. Exploring further west is Drummoyne home of Sydney's warehouse outlet shopping stores at Birken Head Point and, multicultural suburbs like Leichardt and Marrickville offering a fantastic mix of delis, asian supermarkets and restaurants serving food from a myriad of cultures. Then you'll find Olympic Park at Homebush Bay, former home of Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Transport in the region includes CityRail's Inner West railway line and various bus routes provided largely by Sydney Buses.
